Why use Bone?
Why use Bone over Brass you might ask? The truth is- for nuts, usually Brass is chosen first. But in some cases, players may be looking for a tone that isn't as "bright sounding". No, Brass doesn't make your guitar sound very much brighter than normal, and by no means does is sound overwhelmingly bright... but Bone in fact does slightly sound more calm, which of course some acoustic players want -and gives you almost as much tuning stability as Brass.
If this is something you might prefer, Bone may be something to look into -mainly for saddles. However, there are other deciding factors on which material is best for you. For instance, Bone is much less dense than Brass... therefore doesn't last a lifetime, doesn't stay in tune as well, and isn't as strong or reliable. It's easier to work with, and therefore the price is slightly cheaper (refer to "Prices" section for more info)
If you're looking for a new saddle on your Acoustic, I usually recommend Bone because a Brass saddle is very hard and time consuming for me to make... and since it's more work, it costs much more than a Brass nut -which is why I only do them upon special request.
On the other hand, as far as nuts go- I 99% of the time suggest using Brass over Bone for many reasons. However, the choice is ultimately yours to make.
Bone Nuts (like as Brass Nuts) can be made in any size to fit any guitar. Although, I currently only stock 6-string blanks for Saddles, and Nuts 1 3/4" wide. If your nut is wider than this, No problem! You'll just have to provide me with a Bone Blank to make it from.
